Charmene Yap

Charmene completed a Bachelor of Arts in Dance at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2006. She also spent a semester at Purchase College, New York and worked with choreographer Karole Armitage and the Armitage Gone! Dance Company. During her time at WAAPA, she performed at the Hong Kong Dance Festival and received a scholarship to participate in the Taipeidea Intensive in Taiwan. In March 2007 Charmene joined Gavin Webber’s company Dancenorth in Townsville for their Underground season. She received an Australia Council Skills and Development Grant for Young and Emerging Artists, which allowed her to work with numerous artists including Lucy Guerin, Sue Healey and Tanja Liedtke. Mortal Engine is Charmene’s first work with Chunky Move.
